THE JACK KOHLER
CAMPERSHIP
ASSOCIATION

About John J. Kohler
The Jack Kohler Campership Association was formed by friends of
the late John J. Kohler in 1986. The purpose of the organization is quite
simple; to perpetuate the spirit and brotherhood that Jack Kohler lived
by. Jack Kohler stood for keeping the "Outing in Scouting", for Ten Mile
River Scout Camps, for the Order of the Arrow. He loved the great outdoors,
fun and fellowship. Today THE JACK KOHLER CAMPERSHIP ASSOCIATION helps to
keep that spirit by way of campership assistance, camp promotion programs
and by holding fellowship activities. Any person who believes in the spirit
of scout camping and fun is welcome to join the ASSOCIATION.
JOHN J. KOHLER served Scouting for more than 50 years. Joining the scout
movement in 1932, he served in many positions. He had a positive affect
on much of the best that scouting has to offer today. During his tenure,
Mr. Kohler served as the Chairman of Camping for Queens Council for more
than 25 years. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Greater New York Councils
Camping Committee. During four decades, Jack Kohler was the Advisor to Suanhacky
Lodge #49, Order of the Arrow. At Ten Mile River Scout Camp, Jack held many
positions over the years, including Reservation Wide Services Director,
Director of Camp Kernochan, Director of Camp Keowa as well as long time
Camp Scoutmaster.
Jack served his country, with the U.S. Army, in Europe, during WWII. After
the war he returned home and started a career with the City of New York.
No matter how busy he got at work, he always kept an active roll within
Scouting.
In recognition of his sacrifices and service to Scouting, Jack Kohler was
awarded the Silver Beaver Award, The Vigil Honor, The King George Award,
Scouters Key, Medal of Merit, Order of the Arrow Founders Award, Citations
from the Mayor of New York City, Governor of New York State, Queens County,
the Congress of the United States and many other groups from within and
outside of Scouting in the communities he served.
It is through the efforts of Jack Kohler and those like him that we still
have Ten Mile River Scout Camps and the Order of the Arrow in the Greater
New York Councils.
