Spring 2011 - Summer 2011

Seven new scouters were inducted into the Jack Kohler Heritage Society. The induction ceremony took place during the Suanhacky Honors Weekend at Camp Keowa in May.

The Board approved an additional $300 donation to the up-keep of the Jack Kohler Cabin at Camp Alpine. This is in addition to the $400 already pledged for 2011.

The Board approved and later confirmed the awardees for the 2011 Outstanding Scouter of Excellence Award: Wally Carry, Jim McKay, Hedy DeBonet, Amy Shapiro, and Henry Zalak. The Board also approved the awarding of a Life-Time Achievement Award to Mitch Morgenstern. All awards will be presented during the Association's 25th Anniversary Event.

We regret to announce the passing of Board Member Arthur Brace.

Memorial contributions for the John Williamson NOAC Scholarship can be made to the Jack Kohler Campership Association.

Fall 2010 - Winter 2011

The Board approved 2011 Camperships. There will be $3000 available for Scouts to go to TMR and $500 for Cubs to attend Cub World. By the end of 2011, the Association will have assisted more than 800 Queens Scouts attend summer camp.

The Board approved a 33% increase in assistance for the up-keep of the Kohler Cabin at Camp Alpine. This year's $400 donation will help make 'our cabin' the show piece of Camp Alpine.

The Kohler Association is part of United Way contributions. If you participate at work, please designate the Kohler Association #012596.

The Board has decided that effective for 2012, Lifetime Membership will incresae to $150.

The Board has decided that after May 2011, the minimum donation to honor someone with membership in our Heritage Society will be increased to $150.

We regret to announce the passing of Board Member Bill Schieb.

William R. Scheib of Milltown, NJ passed away at his home on October 31, 2010. He was 65 years old. Born in New York City, he grew up in Bayside, NY and later resided in Elmont, NY, before moving to Milltown, NJ in 1984. William was a veteran of the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1971. He had worked for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City and later became the Director of Information & Technologies for the Arc of Somerset County for 17 years. William also taught Basic Computer Fundamentals at the VoTech Adult Night School in East Brunswick for 10 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church of Milltown. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for 52 years. William joined Scout Troop 253 in 1957 where he served as Senior Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. As an adult, he served on the board of the Jack Kohler Campership Association, also serving in his District and Council serving as a member of the Camping committee, Roundtable Commissioner, District Commissioner and Vice President of the Queens council. He received the Award of Merit and Silver Beaver Award and is a Vigil Honor member of Suanhacky Lodge. He also served on the camp staff at Ten Mile River Scout Camp from 1963-1965. He was also very active with Troop #33 of Milltown and Central Jersey Scouting.
Predeceased by his loving wife, the late Ellen, he is survived by a son and daughter, Jason Adam Scheib of Milltown and Stephanie Helene Scheib of Jersey City, NJ; a brother and sister-in-law, Edmund & Nancy Scheib of Garden City, NY; a mother-in-law, Helen Lantela of Uniondale, NY; several sisters and brothers- in- law and many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions can be made to the Jack Kohler Campership Association.

The Board would like to announce that Ed Pino has been approved to become a member of the Board of Directors.

Congrats to Mitch Morgenstern on being awarded the John W. Jerome Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ecumenical Youth and Scouting Ministry of the Queens Federation of Churches.



The Association will be Celebrating 25 Years of Helping To Make Every Scout A Camper. Save the date Sunday November 13, 2011 at 1:00 PM. The event will take place at Marbella Restaurant at 220-33 Northern Blvd. Bayside, N.Y.
