THE JACK KOHLER
CAMPERSHIP ASSOCIATION
Dear TEN MILE RIVER CAMPER - PAST AND PRESENT,
TEN MILE RIVER! Summers of hiking, swimming, campfires, and building a lifetime of friendships and memories.
The JACK KOHLER CAMPERSHIP ASSOCIATION has been trying to help today’s Scouts achieve what many of us had, some summertime fun at Scout Camp specifically T.M.R!
Since our inception in 1986 the JACK KOHLER CAMPERSHIP ASSOCIATION has been doing just that. More than 30 Scouts per summer season from Queens have been awarded camperships that we’ve provided, to help offset the cost of TEN MILE RIVER camp fees. Many of these scouts may not have been able to experience T.M.R. if not for the assistance we were able to give them. As we enter another summer season of helping Queens Boy Scouts, we ask if you will join us in our task.
THERE ARE MANY WAYS IN WHICH YOU CAN HELP US.
- JOIN THE JACK KOHLER CAMPERSHIP ASSOCIATION
- MAKE A CONTRIBUTION OF SCOUTING PATCHES OR MEMORABILIA TO OUR ASSOCIATION (that we then sell at "scouting flea markets" as major fundraising)
- MAKE A MONETARY DONATION TO THE ASSOCIATION
- PURCHASE A NAMEPLATE ON OUR HERITAGE SOCIETY PLAQUE (which hangs in CAMP ALPINE for all to see).
We are a completely volunteer, non-profit organization. We are a recognized tax-deductible organization. We raise our campership funds through a number of different ways. Here is a sample of methods of raising campership funds
HERITAGE SOCIETY:
In Camp Alpine. NJ we have a plaque on display with more than 50 nameplates. This plaque, which measures more than 15 feet, is a beautiful way to enshrine a person, place or event. Your troop, co-worker, scoutmaster, parent can all have there nameplate put on here for all to see. A minimum donation of $100 will allow us to put the name and phrase on this plaque. (I.e.: Joe Smith: Scoutmaster troop 324 Mary Jones: Scouting Mom Al Klein: A friend of Camp Man)
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership in the association is open to all. There is no age, nor sex, nor any membership restrictions at all. No Scouting affiliation is required for membership in the association, just a belief in the Scout principles, Oath and Law. Membership is by individual and/or family. Membership is $10 per year, $25 for a three-year term, or $100 for Lifetime Membership. More than 95% of the membership dues goes directly into the campership fund, with the balance used for mailings and limited expenses (printing, supplies, paper)
COMMEMORATIVE DONATIONS: We accept donations to honor, and/or memorialize people. When we receive such a donation, a letter is set out informing a family of a donation that has been made in that person’s name, and by whom. This is a wonderful way to remember, or thank a person whether within, or out of scouting.
SCOUTING MEMORABILIA DONATIONS: The major way we raise our campership funds is by selling old scout patches and memorabilia that have been donated to us. A simple little patch, collecting dust in your drawer can get us $5, $10, $50, even as much as $100 if it is one that some collector wants and needs. Scout camp patches, O.A. patches, rank badges, pins, old merit badges, all can be converted into a weeks stay at T.M.R. for some Scout. If you request, we can furnish a tax letter for donated memorabilia.
A short stay at T.M.R. can mean so much in a young mans life. Won’t you please help us, help those scouts. If you’ve spent time at T.M.R., you’ll understand.
Please feel free to contact us at our Post Office Box, or at our E-Mail address which is JKohlerASN@aol.com
We sincerely hope that you can help us in one form or another to continue helping Scouts get that TEN MILE RIVER experience well into the next millenium.
Yours in Scouting,
Denis Sackett
